Maddy and Chris are a couple after my own heart. They are in a long distance relationship, which is especially hard between a Canadian and American. Making a simple phone call is hard due to international fees, going through customs is a pain, and the weekend when people go out can be lonely. But they endured for years, even spent a year living in Australia together, because when you meet the person you were meant to be with, it can be so easy. Those airport hellos are amazing, going out on the weekends, even to a hole in the wall place can feel like the greatest of triumphs. Life is feels whole.
As someone who is in a long distance relationship, those scenarios are all too real to me. I was so happy to document Maddy and Chris’s day because there is an amazing ending, a day where you bring your closest families and friends together and you celebrate all that is you. There was so much joy and happiness throughout the day and lots of laughing. I think the best moment of the day was watching Maddy and her mom walk down the aisle, you just know that their bond is strong, even though Maddy is in Canada. I know Maddy and Chris are happy in Vancouver, having a Japadog for me :).
