It was an absolute dream to photograph Van and Joe’s wedding at 5226 Elm in Houston. Van and Joe are just plain awesome people. They met years ago in college, with Van owning a puppy named Sophie. When having a dog, if you don’t win over the dog, you probably won’t win the affection of the owner. As you can see, Sophie and Joe are pretty much best friends.
Their day started with Van getting ready at their house and Joe getting ready at a friend’s. I love how the modern decorations in Van and Joe’s house, with lots of cool knick knacks and just the minimal look. If you know anything about Van and Joe, they love dogs. So of course, their wedding party was made up of their closest friends plus their dog Sophie and another canine friend.
The ceremony and reception were held at the 5226 Elm, an alternative studio space and wedding venue with a modern and clean look. It was such a pleasure to have so many variations of backdrop locations for photographs. From their first look in the garden, easily hidden away from others. To colourful and geometric walls on the block for creative wedding party portraits. Then clean white studio spaces for classic family (dog included of course) photos. I adored photographing their night ceremony in the courtyard complete with a picturesque meditation pond. The strung cafe lights were definitely a photographer’s dream. Their reception was full of wedding games, speeches that had guests in stitches, and a lively dancefloor the dogs even took part in. These three are absolutely amazing.
